Building Self-Esteem and Confidence in Kids

Positive self-esteem is critically important for healthy development. Unfortunately, difficulties with low self-esteem are common and affect many children. Research shows that self-esteem becomes particularly problematic after age nine when positive self-esteem often drops significantly.

It is difficult to know how to best support your child to guard against this trend. Self-esteem can be impacted in so many ways. There is conflict with friends, negative feedback from peers, faulty perceptions of situations, disagreements with adults and teachers, negative messages from social media, body image issues… the list goes on. It’s crucial to develop a good working knowledge about healthy self-esteem and have a plan!
