How to Cope with the Winter Blues

Between 2 to 6% of Canadians will experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) in their lifetime, while another 15% will experience a milder form of this issue.

Mood issues related to a specific season are somewhat mysterious. There is no definitive cause (weather is only one contributing factor), but the effects are very real.

People struggling with seasonal mood issues often report feeling symptoms such as sadness, fatigue, a desire to socially isolate, and increased sleep. These symptoms typically persist until the end of the fall or winter season.

For many, COVID-19 has contributed to decreased activity, fewer social interactions, and more time spent indoors, making seasonal mood issues even more concerning this year.
