Frequently Asked Questions
Research shows that evidence-based psychotherapy is generally the most effect treatment for psychological/mental health issues. At our clinic, people present with many issues ranging from difficulties with worrying or feeling unhappy to managing significant mental health issues (i.e., frequent anxiety attacks, longstanding difficulties with severe depression, etc.).
Psychological assessments are beneficial when an important question needs to be answered for the purposes of:
- self-knowledge
- determining appropriate treatment planning for psychotherapy/counselling
- establishing appropriate recommendations for school (i.e., Individualized Education Plan) or workplace accommodations
- obtaining funding for support at school (i.e., assistive technology, support at school, etc.) or in the community
- identifying the correct diagnosis to help physician’s determine which medication would be best for treatment when client’s wish to pursue medication as a component of treatment
No, a referral from a physician is not required to make an appointment. However, if you intend to access extended health coverage to pay for your appointment, your insurer may require a physician referral in order for you to utilize your insurance coverage.
Unfortunately, not at this time as insurance companies generally do not offer direct billing for psychological services. If direct billing becomes available in the future, we would be open to offering this to our clients.
At this time, there are 9 different funding sources that clients typically access. Please review the following list to see if you are able to access coverage. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our clinic for further information.
For psychotherapy/counselling, appointments are typically booked within 1-2 weeks. In some cases, as openings arise in a therapist’s schedule, appointments can be booked within the same day or within the week.
Appointments for Psychological (mental health) assessments are generally booked within 1-2 weeks. For more specialized assessment services such as psychoeducational, ADHD, autism and neuropsychological assessments, appointments are typically booked within 6 weeks.
For psychotherapy/counselling, appointments are generally 50 minutes with 10 minutes reserved for documentation.
For psychological (mental health) assessments, appointments are typically 2-3 hours, while specialized assessments such as psychoeducational, ADHD, Autism and neuropsychological assessments range from 3-6 hours.
Yes, we offer both evening and weekend availability. Our hours of operation are as follows:
Monday – Thursday: 9:00am – 8:00pm
Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
Information disclosed in psychotherapy/counselling session or during a psychological assessment is kept strictly confidential and cannot be disclosed without your consent. We utilize a practice management system that is compliant with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Document Act (PIPEDA). If you would like this information released to another individual (e.g., a family physician, a lawyer, etc), a consent to release information form must be signed. As pertains to virtual appointments, we use a secure video-conferencing platform that is compliant with Ontario’s Privacy Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
