Important Things To Know

About Sullivan + Associates

Since our inception in 2007, we have progressed from a small clinic with 2 founding members to a clinic with 74 team members. During this time, our clinic has evolved continuously to the current version that exists today. Here are some important things to know.

Our History

Over the past 18 years, we have seen over 40,000 clients and our clinicians have been involved in over 280,000 appointments. In 2007, our clinic began as a small, private practice with company founders, Dr. Jennifer Sullivan and Trevor Sullivan and has grown to include 50 Master and Doctoral-level clinicians.  We feel that our growth is not only due to the demand for services in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario but to the clinicians who help our clients to achieve their goals.

Our Experience

The clinicians at our clinic vary in age and experience. Supervision meetings at our clinic occur on a monthly basis and are led by a clinical psychologist. Meeting on a monthly basis also allows an opportunity for collaboration among clinicians, as well as the opportunity for our senior clinicians to share their experience with our clinical staff. We are very fortunate to have a Psychotherapist with over 45 years of psychotherapy/counselling experience and a Psychologist with over 55 years of psychological assessment experience to share their knowledge.

Our Education

We have 50 Master and Doctoral Level clinicians. Our Master-level clinicians have a minimum of 6 years of post-secondary (University) education, while our Doctoral-level clinicians have a minimum of 10 years of post-secondary (University) education. Our clinicians remain current in the fields of psychology and social work by meeting yearly continuing education requirements and maintaining registration with their regulated professional College.

Our Clinical Approach

We have been offering clinical services for over 18 years. During this time, we have continued to develop and refine our clinic’s process for delivering assessment and psychotherapy/counselling services. Our approach has continued to evolve over the years, as we strive to answer important clinical questions with psychological assessments and help clients to achieve their goals through psychotherapy /counselling.

We Are Skill Builders And Strategists

As clinicians, our goal isn’t simply to listen, empathize and validate our client’s concerns.  These are important components of psychotherapy/counselling but treatment and assessments are incomplete until we are able to accurately identify what challenges our clients are facing and develop a treatment plan for psychotherapy clients, and create recommendations and accommodations for our assessment clients, to help our clients to better manage or overcome these issues.  We help clients to achieve these results by teaching our clients psychological skills and strategies that can be beneficial when different obstacles arise in the client’s daily life and new skills need to be introduced or strategies need to be to be modified to help clients achieve their goals.

We Offer A Free Consultation

Once someone has made the decision to seek mental health services, it’s important to select the right service. A free consultation can be crucial if someone is uncertain whether they would most likely benefit from an assessment and/or psychotherapy/counselling. A consultation can help to determine what type of assessment or psychotherapy/counselling services would be most helpful, so they receive effective, efficient service.

Our Promise To You

At the conclusion of the first psychotherapy/counselling session, our Office Manager, Roberta Barrow, makes every effort to follow-up with our clients to ensure that the initial appointment fulfilled their expectations and that there was a good clinic fit with their therapist. Occasionally, there isn’t an ideal match between the client and therapist, and in this case, we will transfer the client to another therapist in our clinic with the first session being free of charge.
