Helping Teens with Depression: Strategies for Parents


Unfortunately, teen depression is all too common in our society. Approximately 11 percent of Canadian youth (ages 15 to 24) reported experiencing depression at some point in their lives, according to Statistics Canada (2017).

Depression can affect all facets of life for teens, including behaviour, appetite, energy level, sleep patterns, relationships, and academic performance.

It’s important for parents to identify potential symptoms of depression in their teens and have practical strategies to help them cope when they are struggling.
